History can not be altered and its myriad paths would follow their own destined course. One such occurrence is the British colonization of India. Land colonized India gradually and established its rule over the country for quite a century. If British colonization had not happened in any respect, where would we be today?
To begin with, we’d not have suffered all that we did under land within the process of winning freedom from them. In colonized India, the people were stripped of their rights in every sense. they might not participate in the political and economic development of their own country. They were denied the correct to create their own government and run the administration of their country. The country’s primary institutions including those associated with judiciary, defense, and law were surpassed by outsiders who failed to care about the welfare of the state and its people.
The people’s trying to win their rights only caused suffering and death. it had been a not only loss of wealth and prosperity that the masses had to endure; thousands of individuals lost their lives in the fight for freedom from country’s yoke. The country’s nationalist leaders paid an important price in their try and secure freedom for India. All this might not have happened if a people had not come to reign in India.
Surely, India would be one of the foremost economically prosperous nations in the world today if the British people had not exploited the Indian economy to their advantage. Brits drained the wealth and economic resources of India. British policy was to assist the expansion of the land home industry at the value of the Indian economy. As a result, the economy of our country acquired the essential features of an underdeveloped economy. Thus India, once it became free, was left to undo the wrongs of others and set right its economy by whatever means was available thereto. Many of the economic problems that India currently faces, including poverty and unemployment, are often traced to the mismanagement of the Indian economy under British rule.
On the opposite hand. The British presence in India did lead to some achievements which can not have happened if the nation had not ruled over India. it’s just that an incident has both positive and negative results all of which aren’t always intentional on the part of man. for example, the British unified India into one social unit, generating a sense of oneness among the people and awakening the national consciousness. History could be a witness to the extent to which the people of the country united to fight against the land. Geographically, the British created an India larger than that over which the Mauryans and also the Mughals had ruled.
One of the foremost beneficial results of British rule was the modernization of India. a people developed transport and communication on modern lines. The spread of western thought and education modernized the society by fuelling reform movements geared toward purging the Indian society of its traditional ills. They established the primary machine and newspaper in India. The Press further developed later to tell and educate the masses about a people’s exploitation of India.
The British rule gave rise to a cultural and spiritual awakening in India that inspired millions to require pride in the traditions and achievements of their nation. Rediscovery of India’s past by nationalists and other leaders infused self-confidence and revealed to those that they were in no way inferior to the nation. Most of all, it had been the British people who ruled out India that produced nationalist leaders brilliant in their strength of self-sacrifice and perseverance geared toward achieving freedom for India.
