Chris Pincher was an MP and Deputy Chief Whip of Boris’ conservative party, responsible for the Welfare of the MPs at the House of Commons. He allegedly groped two men on 29th June 2022 at the Carlson club. Mr Pincher didn’t mention anything particular when resigning from the position as the Deputy Chief Whip but mentioned in the resignation letter on 30th June 2022 that “I drank far too much….I think the right thing for me to do is to resign as deputy chief whip. I owe it to you and the people I have caused upset too, to do this”.

According to Downing Street, Pincher had done the right thing and declared that no further action would occur. This lasted for a day. On 2nd July, Boris spoke to one of the M.P. who was allegedly groped. It was sourced to be “Sufficiently disturbing” and led to the suspension of Pincher from the party. Pincher is being investigated by the Parliament’s independent Complaints and Grievances Scheme. Many have critiqued that the suspension should have come instantly.

Many have argued that Boris Johnson gives his party free reign with no application and conduct shown by the ruling government. Especially in Chris Pincher’s case, which has been caught in the web of sexual misconduct since 2001 and had previously resigned. Alex Story, in 2017, came forward on how in 2001, the shirt untucking and the advances that Chris made on Alex non-consensually made Alex liken Chris to a “pound shop Harvey Weinstein” and added, “…the deceit employed to get me to his flat went beyond misreading the signs. I would say it was premeditated”. However, he was cleared by the conservative by a probe.

Johnson denied knowing anything “specific” about Pincher’s misconduct; the down street spokesperson was questioned multiple times. This is the fifth time a conservative M.P. has lost their position due to sexual misconduct—the previous being Imran khan’s sexual assault of a 15-year-old boy.
