The Blood Donation Amrit Mahotsav is being launched on September 17 on the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There is a plan to collect one lakh units of blood across the country on this day and just as the data of corona vaccination is visible in real time, in the same way the data of blood donation will be updated live on September 17.
Under the Blood Donation Amrit Mahotsav, voluntary blood donation registration has started on the Arogya Setu portal. It calls upon people to donate blood and be a part of the Prime Minister’s mission for the sake of humanity.
Who can donate blood?
A letter has been sent by the Union Health Ministry to all the states and union territories regarding this campaign and it has been said that this campaign will continue till National Voluntary Blood Donation Day i.e. October 1. Any healthy person, whose age is more than 18 years, can donate blood voluntarily by joining this campaign.
Blood database will be made on e-Raktkosh portal
Instructions have been given to register the blood banks and update their data on the e-Raktkosh portal operated by the Central Government. According to the blood group available in all government and private blood banks, the stock will be displayed on the e-Rakt Kosh portal and common people will also be able to check the stock on this portal. The link to this portal is also available on the Arogya Setu app.
If more people come to a blood bank than the capacity and those who are unable to give blood will also get a participation certificate. Blood samples of such people will be collected and their data will be collected and if needed, they will be called for blood donation.
Every 2 seconds 1 person needs blood
Let us tell you that 350 ml of blood can save 3 lives and every 2 seconds in the country, one person needs blood. During the Corona period, there was a need for 1 crore 46 lakh units of blood, but only 1 crore 25 lakh units of blood were available. There are about 3900 blood banks in the country including government and private, but there is a shortage of blood in these banks. Therefore, all the blood banks of the country are being asked to join this portal.
